Our story

Designshop Modernista has a totally unique, Czech-designed interior product selection spanning the last one hundred years. Furniturehome accessoriesglasswareporcelain, and toys in the tradition of Art deco, cubism, functionalism, and Brussels style.

Czech Art Deco from the 20th century mixed with cubist elements in painting is not so unique, but applying cubist elements to Art deco in architecture is found only in the Czech environment.

The first half of the 20th Century, the Golden Age of Czech design, spawned leaders of functionalism – Architect Joseph Gočár, Designer Jindřich Halabala, and Graphic Designer Ladislav Sutnar. The second half ushered in the Brussels style and by the time of the Expo '58 exhibition Czechoslovak designs had captured the world's attention and recognition.

Modernista is proud to have impacted the ever-growing popularity of Czech designs from the 20th Century. The Modernista influence has helped elevate Czech-designed products and objects to collector-status treasured by people around the world. All branches of Modernista in Dům Černé Matky BožíModernista in Uměleckoprůmyslové muzeumModernista in Obecní dům and Modernista Design shop Jízdárna Pražského hradu.
